Meena was born as Meena Durairaj on September 16, 1976, in Madras (now Chennai), Tamil Nadu, India. She holds Indian nationality and belongs to a Tamil family with maternal roots in Kerala. She is fluent in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Hindi, and English, enabling her to work successfully across multiple Indian film industries. Her mother, Rajamallika, hailed from Kannur, Kerala, while information about her father has remained largely private. Meena began acting as a child while pursuing her education in Chennai, successfully balancing academics with a flourishing film career. She later trained in classical dance and expanded her talents into singing, dubbing, and television. She married Bengaluru-based software engineer Vidyasagar on July 12, 2009. Meena began her acting career as a child artist in the Tamil film Nenjangal (1982) after being noticed by legendary actor Sivaji Ganesan. She went on to appear in more than 45 films as a child artist, including Anbulla Rajinikanth, Enkeyo Ketta Kural, Manasariyathe, Lakshmi Vanthachu, and Illalu Priyuralu. Her transition to lead actress came with Navayugam (1990) in Telugu and Oru Pudhiya Kadhai (1990) in Tamil, but her major breakthrough arrived with En Rasavin Manasile (1991), where her performance as Solaiyamma received widespread acclaim.
