Srinivasa Sarja, professionally known as Arjun Sarja, is an Indian actor, director, producer, and screenwriter who was born on August 15, 1962, in Madhugiri, Mysore State (now Karnataka), India. He belongs to a Kannada family and holds Indian nationality. Born to renowned Kannada actor Shakti Prasad and Lakshmi, an art teacher, Arjun grew up in a family closely connected to the entertainment industry. He studied in Karnataka before pursuing his acting career and was initially interested in becoming a police officer. Inspired by Bruce Lee’s films, he began karate training at the age of sixteen and later earned a black belt. His multilingual career has allowed him to work fluently across Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, and other Indian language industries. Arjun began his acting journey with the Kannada film Simhada Mari Sainya in 1981 and later made his Tamil debut with Nandri and Telugu debut with Maa Pallelo Gopaludu. During the 1980s, he appeared in numerous successful films including Shankar Guru, Thaimel Aanai, Sonthakkaran, Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu, Thangaikku Oru Thalattu, and Thanga Thamaraigal. His breakthrough came with director Shankar’s blockbuster Gentleman in 1993, which earned him the Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Actor and established him as a major star. He married Niveditha Arjun in 1988, and the couple has two daughters, Aishwarya Arjun and Anjana Arjun. His daughter Aishwarya has also pursued a career in acting. He is a devoted follower of Lord Hanuman and has been involved in building a Hanuman temple near Chennai featuring a massive stone statue of the deity.
